I am taking another creative writing workshop this semester, but this one is focused on poetry. I have often written poetry, but I have never taken a real class to hone my skills (which currently do not exist). Needless to say, poetry is not my forte but I have been learning some new skills. I just wrote this poem and I’m pretty proud of it, so I thought I would share itâ¦
From the raccoon who knocks over your trash
Prince of thieves,
Do not bow and scrape
And wait to be served.
These clever hands take what they want.
When I don my mask,
I become master of the night.
Your steel bins cannot stop me
Devouring the products of your work.
When you wake in the morning,
Clean up my mess.
Set my table.
I will be back later.
My poetry teacher likes to say “look it up or die,” so if you’re wondering who Azeban isâ¦it’s not a name I made up. ~Gwenn
